Break The Fear
About Us

DeSousa Drive from Edmonton, AB was formed from the ashes of a band called TOMMY…. Or was it??? The story starts out when Vic de Sousa answered a weekly newspaper ad for a local band seeking a lead vocalist in April 2006. The band was a little suspicious of anyone who answered their ad due to their first singer claiming to have written numerous songs for some well known 80’s rockstars, who formed more obscure projects in the 90’s. The boys from Tommy soon found out that not only did the singer lie about writing these songs, but he also could not sing. (The first few months he claimed to be recovering from vocal chord surgery). Thank god for the internet...The powerful brotherhood syndicate begins.

The band adopts a new singer and remains gracious enough to incorporate his last name into that of the band? Well….. Much like the Mob, when you are a musician playing in a rock band you not only belong to a band or organization, you belong to a family. With the guys all being fans of mafia shows, and being brothers from other mothers, it made sense to adopt the nearest sounding Italian name from a band member (front man Vic de Sousa). OK you got them… the name is Portuguese, but at least it is from the same continent as Italy. The band started out as a 5 piece but currently runs as a 3 piece, consisting of Vic de Sousa (vocals), Kris Dunlop (guitar) and, Kirk Gagne (bass). June of 2008; D-Drive was named a top 4 finalist in the band battle “Last Band Standing.”

DeSousa Drive performs songs about life's ups and downs, frustrations, and love The 5-song power pop/rock collection "Rockstar College" (in stores Feb 18/09) exposes some of the bands inner demons and struggles as they voyage or “Drive” through life. The songs may bring up some of your own demons but it will get your head bobbing and crack you a stone cold grin in the process. Although the songs on “Rockstar College” were penned by Vic and previous band mates (2 of which now play with the band “Tupelo Honey”), all members of the band contribute to the songwriting since the group’s birth in 2006. DeSousa Drive’s music is a savory modern hard rock beverage. Put Hinder, Idle Sons, Red Hot Chili peppers, Mike Patton and Bon Jovi in a blender and pulsate; end result is a DeSousa Drive music milkshake. Dairy Queen has got nothing on this satisfying blend of mind demon, brain freezing, life rock. Brace yourself as you venture through DeSousa Drive's hearts and minds. Catch them this summer for their Canadian tour.
